Neutral Nail Colors

Neutral doesn't have to mean skin-matching. Taupe, gray, muted brown and subdued pink can all keep a manicure quiet while adding their own undertone.

A neutral palette for the clothes you already own

Put your usual colors beside the manicure reference. Cream knitwear may make a warm beige feel connected; a charcoal wardrobe can make a grayish taupe more useful. Neither shade has to disappear against your skin to count as a neutral choice.

Control the amount of contrast

A pale neutral leaves a lighter impression than a deep brown. For a restrained accent, use the darker color only on the tips or one nail. For an all-over manicure, compare the full hand rather than just the bottle.

Dusty pink adds a little color without the intensity of hot pink. Sage can play a similarly muted role if you prefer green, though it will still read as green. Neutral is a styling decision here, not a fixed set of shades that match every outfit.
